“Biting Lip,” “Pregnant Man,” and 35 new 2021 emojis approved for Unicode 14.0

It's finally here! The Unicode Consortium has approved 37 new emojis to be added to various platforms and apps. These include keyboard apps, instant messaging apps, and more. Apple device emoji fans are set to rejoice!

There are 838 new emojis in Unicode 14.0! The latest version of Unicode Standard launched on September 14, formalizing the previous draft release. In all, there are 838 new characters in Unicode 14.0.

The lineup of emoji on Apple devices is set to grow. The Unicode Consortium has approved version 14.0 of its standard.

Now that the new version has be approved, it will be up to Apple to add the information to its software. More than likely, the new emoji could arrive before the end of the year with an update to iOS/iPadOS 15.

There are 37 brand new emoji like bubbles, crutches, X-ray, and many more. Unicode 14.0 also includes 828 new characters with different skin tones and more.

With the new additions, the total number of emojis supported by Unicode 14.0 comes to 3,633 which includes variants of the same emoji differentiated by gender, skin tone and flags. Unicode 14.0 also brings support for the Handshake emoji with various skin tone combinations.
